"The speed and professionalism of this service is exceptional"

About: Fife Community Services / Rapid Cancer Diagnostic Service (RCDS) Queen Margaret Hospital / Radiology

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I was referred to the RCDS team at Victoria Hospital by my GP after a dramatic loss of weight.  The RCDS team were very quick to respond and the next day after the referral I was contacted and given an initial consultation.  This was rapidly followed up by a CT Scan and results.  Thankfully all my results were clear and no cancer found. This all happened within four days.  The speed and professionalism of this service is exceptional.  Katie from the RCDS explained what would be happening with a great deal of care and it really felt everyone was on my side. Additionally the RCDS information leaflet given to me by my GP was a great source of comfort in that it explained everything in detail.  This leaflet helped take away any fear I had of possible outcomes and was clear about the service. Thanks to the staff at the RCDS, Kirkcaldy and the staff at Radiography Queen Margaret Dunfermline for their caring and professional manner at all times.

Dear rcdsal189,

My name is Murdina MacDonald and I am the lead Professional Nurse for RCDS. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of our Service. I’m glad to hear your results were reassuring and that the process helped bring clarity and reassurance at what must have been an understandably anxious time.

You’ve highlighted several things that matter deeply to us particularly the speed of access, the clarity of communication, and the feeling that everyone was “on your side.” These are not just pleasant experiences; they are essential safety factors. When patients feel informed and supported, it makes space for better questions, clearer decisions, and ultimately better care.

Katie and the wider team will be heartened to hear your feedback not just as a kindness, but as a meaningful affirmation of what good practice looks like. You’ve also drawn attention to something often overlooked: the value of written information that is both honest and reassuring. It’s encouraging to hear that the RCDS leaflet helped reduce your fear. That’s not accidental it’s the result of thoughtful design, shaped in part by patients like yourself.

Your feedback doesn’t just commend the people involved it helps us understand what “good” looks and feels like from the patient’s perspective. That’s vital learning for us, and I’ll make sure your comments are shared with both sites involved.

Thank you again for your trust and openness. We are always listening.

Wishing you well in the future.

Warm Regards

Murdina
