Was taken to the Victoria Hospital A&E recently with a sudden onset of epigastric pain. Never felt pain like it even after 2 babies’ deliveries. Was being sick with the pain. Couldn’t sit or get comfortable on admission. I was taken through immediately and a lovely doctor and a caring nurse called Alan cannulated me immediately, taking bloods and giving me anti sickness meds and morphine IV. Though the antiemetics worked fairly quickly, the morphine didn’t have a great effect and I was given more. I was taken for a CT scan very quickly and had a contrast scan.
Every single member of staff from the clerical staff to paramedics to the CT staff were so warm, reassuring and friendly. I have never felt so grateful for the pain to be alleviated. As a retired nurse and midwife, this hospital keeps blowing me away with its care. Having spent most of my career in Edinburgh, though I have worked all over the UK, I have been consistently impressed with the staff. Everyone so caring and prompt. No “I’ll be back in a minute” Well done NHS Fife. The staff at the Vic A&E, CT staff and surgical team are a credit to you. I am having follow up tests so hopefully we’ll get to the bottom of the pain’s cause.
