"The team were brilliant"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Accident and emergency Pilgrim Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a relative),

Well what can I say about the nurses and care team on TAU? Kat Deb and Hannah, the team in TAU were brilliant.

My wife broke her ankle in two places. She was in a and e for a long time and given pain relief but not enough to help the pain management at all. But the team that put her leg in a back slab and cast were brilliant, they could see how unsettled my wife was and put her mind and mine at ease so well. Although she was only given paracetamol to help with the pain after that which was not enough.

But once moved to TAU, that is where the better side of the story begins. What can I say, well, Kat, Deb and Hannah were brilliant putting my wife at ease, they could see how upset she was and in a lot of pain. They helped relax her and get pain under control again which is what was needed. They were angels and put my wife at ease so much. Which in turn put me at ease as I know how much my wife does not like hospitals.

When we moved to 2b they took my wife down, did a handover with the new team which was great and before Deb and Hannah left their shift for the night they popped down to see how my wife was which again is brilliant, they had a busy day but made time to see my wife and see how she was doing, I could not ask for any more. Well I could; for her to have stayed on level 3; but that was out of their control. But that aside the team on 2b were good and helped my wife which was good to see. The nurse who came on shift the second night could see an improvement in my wife from the night before which was very nice to see, and she was a lot more relaxed again which is good to hear. Now the op is out the way and onwards and upwards and getting home.

Dear equuleussh48

I sincerely apologise for the care you received during your stay: this is not what we expect for our patients. You should have recieved adequate pain relief. If you would like to contact me to discuss this further I can look into this incident and speak to the staff involved. However, in the meantime I will share this feedback at our departemental meetings in order to improve our patient care and experience.
