"Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis"

About: King's Mill Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter stayed four nights on Ward 25 after being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.  This was a huge shock but we are thankful that she wasn't too unwell when diagnosed, as this can be very dangerous.  It also explained why she had been looking thin and had been very thirsty.

The ward nurses were all lovely, the one who had her own two children with Type 1 and gave us some useful tips, then there was the one with guinea pigs who my daughter enjoyed talking to.  All were really friendly and didn't rush us with anything.  My daughter loved having her own room and said it was like being in a hotel.  She also loved the food!

Sarah the diabetes nurse was also really good and tried to make the information overload more manageable.

We ended up moving my daughter's diabetes care to a hospital closer to home, so they would train her school.  But there were no faults with Kings Mill, thank you for everything you did.
