"This team is invaluable"

A huge thank you to the Airdrie District Nursing team who are an amazing team of true professionals.

My dad had only been under their care for only a few months when his health suddenly deteriorated and we had to call on their help following a visit by paramedics (who were also amazing).

The care and attention offered by the teams both day and night was amazing. The compassion they showed to my dad and also to my mum and I was so touching.

We had to call them in on numerous occasions overnight in order to help get my dads pain relief under control and despite them being very busy, they were there within 10 -15 minutes of being called. This despite 2 of them having to cover the whole of Lanarkshire on one of the nights.

This team is invaluable as they are available 24 hours a day when other services such as palliative care and GP’s are not.

My only issue is that they are not backed up by a local GP as they had to arrange a prescription for a syringe driver for my dad and this could only be done by an out of hours GP in Hamilton meaning that someone had to leave my father who was dying to travel from Airdrie to Hamilton and then find a pharmacy. Surely this is not acceptable? and must put extra pressure on the district nurses who are already under a great deal of pressure.

I am truely grateful and humbled by the district nursing team and cannot thank them enough.
