My elderly, vulnerable, uncle requires 3 sets of eyedrops, prescribed by the eye dept in Tooting hospital, on a complicated schedule lasting 7 weeks, starting at 4 times a day, then 3 times a day, gradually decreasing. He is unable to do these himself. This is to stop an eye infection and to prepare the eye for eyelid surgery. The district nurses have refused to do it as they are not 'commissioned' to provide this service and the care workers have refused to do it as they are not trained to do it. It is now 2.5 weeks on and, at this rate, my uncle will lose his eye. This has uncovered a gaping hole in healthcare provision in Wandsworth that needs to be sorted out.
