"The amazing care my husband has and is receiving from NHS Scotland"

(as a carer),

End of Feb 2025 my husband had what I thought was a stroke, I called 999 and the operator arranged for an ambulance to be sent, she was very calm and went through the FAST test with me to check my husband's reactions. She stayed on the line until the ambulance was dispatched.

Ambulance team were thorough, professional and caring. We were taken to A&E at QEUH, again the staff were amazing, keeping us informed at every stage.

In the early hours of the morning we were told that the CT scan showed what they thought was an inoperable cancer tumour in his brain. He remained in hospital for two weeks, in which time he had a biopsy. The surgeon performing this had a meeting with my husband, myself and our son and explained in detail the procedure, the risks involved and allowed us time to talk it over and decide if we wished to go ahead or not.

Once cancer was confirmed we then had consultation with the Beatson and chemo was started, however this has not worked and sadly now we are under the  GP and district nurse for palliative care.

Throughout our time from the first night in A&E until our visit from Gary our District Nurse, and a telephone consultation with the neurologist, we have been treated with the most caring attitude, all the medical staff just want to do the best for him and make life as easy and pain free for him.

There has also been offers of support for myself and our son. We used Maggie's to get advice on financial help and again they were amazing.

We joke that my husband is the poster boy for the NHS as he has nothing but praise for the care he has had from the ambulance service, nurses, doctors, porters, care assistances, surgeons, oncologists  it has been top notch. We are very lucky to have such an amazing NHS. Thank you!

Dear Marticlare,

Many thanks for taking the time to share your feedback here on Care Opinion. I note that your feedback relates to a number of different NHS services. I am writing on behalf of the Scottish Ambulance Service. I am so sorry to read about your husband's recent ill health. This must have been a very scary and stressful experience for you both and I do hope that he is feeling better now and making a swift recovery. I am pleased to hear that you felt reassured by the call handler and ambulance crew and you found them to be thorough, professional and caring. This positive feedback means a lot to staff so thanks again for taking the time to feedback.

I wish you and your husband all the very best and thanks again.

Kind Regards

Marie,

Patient Experience Manager
