"My experience in recovering from a broken hip"

About: Community Physiotherapy / Perth City Community Physiotherapy Team Ninewells Hospital / Trauma & Orthopaedics Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as the patient),

I fell at home in the kitchen and broke my left hip. Fortunately I was able to get help from my family who called the ambulance. The paramedics were with me within 30 minutes and took me to Ninewells hospital in Dundee.

I received a half-hip replacement and was discharged 10 days later. My treatment in hospital was first class.

Once home, I wasn't sure if I would get physio help so I phoned my GP and was contacted a few days later by Perth City Community Physiotherapy Team.

From then on I had support from Carig who gave me invaluable advice, encouragement and support.

I am currently walking with one walking stick and hope to no longer need it in a few more weeks.

Thank the Lord for the NHS.

Dear hoopla39,

Many thanks for taking the time to share your feedback here on Care Opinion. I note that your feedback relates to a number of different NHS services. I am writing on behalf of the Scottish Ambulance Service. I am so sorry to read about your broken hip, I can imagine this must have been very painful and worrying for you. I'm delighted to hear you are back up and about and hope that you meet your goal of walking without your stick in a few weeks time! Thanks again for the kind words for our staff and all the NHS staff you encountered- it means a lot.

Wishing you all the best in your recovery.

Best wishes,

Marie
