My mum's memory has not been good for some time, but because my dad is there, they help each other. Mum has started to forget the little things, like having a cup of tea. Although she fixates on specific topics, she struggles to recall basic things, such as what she had for dinner.
The GP referred her to the Memory Clinic. They came to assess her at home. The assessment results led the nurse to make an appointment that warranted a CT scan referral, but the outcome is still unknown. We are currently waiting for the results, and this process could be upsetting for both my parents, especially since my parents have previous experience with Dementia in the family. Mum is concerned about this upcoming meeting. She has become quite anxious and emotional, as the family means everything to her.
Dad has been struggling since his hospital admission; he often loses his words and seems frustrated. However, he passed the assessment questions through the GP, which I am so pleased about.
It's been challenging to understand these changes. I started noticing them more after COVID. Overall, it couldn't have been managed any better under the circumstances, and the nurse who did the assessment was just great with mum.
"Could not have been better managed"
