"failed duty of care"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Community Services / Psychology

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter early 20ies and autistic was being seen weekly by the psychology team at Dumfries helping her with severe PTSD. Last Feb her therapist went off sick and nothing has been done to help my daughter who is struggling massively. No one (apart from the off sick therapist) has contacted her to see if she's ok (she's not) nor done anything to arrange continuing therapy. It's now got so bad that she's had to call the crisis team who passed her onto the Distress brief intervention team.

However, they only do two week's help for the immediate distress, no help is offered at all for dealing with the underlying issues. My daughter is too scared to sleep. I have to go over to her (40 miles away) and sleep on her floor so that she feels safe enough to sleep for a few hours. Calls to the psychology team have been useless with nothing done to get help for my daughter. She was never discharged from the service, her therapist went off sick. They should have a duty of care towards her but have failed her massively. They have done nothing to find a new therapist or ensure her safety. Her safe keeping seems to fall upon me alone. I know she will return to self harming or worse, but no one seems to care.

Dear cafecw54,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. I am sorry to learn of your daughter's experience and for the upset and distress this has caused you both.

If you haven’t already reached out to us directly and should you wish to discuss your daughter's experience further, I would urge you to please contact the Patient Experience Team directly, either by email at: dg.patientservices@nhs.scot, or by telephone on 01387 272733. You can also contact the Psychology Department directly to discuss your concerns, and they can be contacted via our switchboard on telephone 01387 246246.

Thank you once again for taking the time to share your feedback. I hope that you feel able to reach out to our team so that we can support you and your daughter further.

Kind regards

Jamie
