My Uncle was in Ward 11 having suffered a stroke, which he was not to recover from from and has passed on. During that 3 weeks I saw genuine care compassion and support to all patients in the bay. My uncle received the very very best care from all staff, people who genuinely cared. My two cousins were welcomed and supported in such a friendly, helpful and supporting manner.
Even when my uncle transferred to a side room, staff cared for uncle so well, so gently and as staff spoke of their pleasure to support and make him comfortable, they were so attentive.
They also checked in regularly to offer support to my cousins, giving reassurance and bringing with that a comfort that dad was safe, supported and surrounded with staff that offered genuine compassion to all.
They answered questions, requests so very helpfully, as well as endless cups of tea at all times of the day and night.
Consultants and doctors also popped in frequently to check on uncle to check in with him and family. My uncle was well on his final journey and so this marvellous care and support continued.
When my uncle passed over, he looked as cosy and comfortable as he did in the last weeks of his life, his side room dorned his table dressed with bible, comforting words for family and dimmed lamps, which also created a lot of comfort to us all that my uncle had simply slipped away.
Did my uncle experience end of care comfort and support? Without doubt a good death, supported by wonderful staff and also aftercare to family.
These staff were truly amazing, and we are indebted to them for their outstanding work.
