"Urgent Care pathway"

About: The Ulster Hospital / Radiology The Ulster Hospital / Urgent Care Centre

(as a parent/guardian),

We attended Urgent Care after having the phone first service, just after 4. I was prepared for a long wait. After 3 hours we were called and told to go up to ED paediatric waiting room which made sense to me, as we were told they only had 1 patient waiting. My question is, if paediatric ED was so quiet, why did they not pull paediatric patients up earlier oppose to sitting twidling their thumbs?

When we were seen in paed ED our care we received was quick, efficient and excellent from all involved especially Robyn in ED radiology who should be commended for how much she manages to put my 5 year told at ease and even made a scared child laugh.

Overall our experience and care was excellent, from phone first to discharge, I am just disappointed in the urgent care pathway to begin with.

Hi turkeyrh84,

Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your experience when attending UHD Urgent Care Centre (UCC) and Paediatric area within the Emergency Department.

I was sorry to hear about the initial long wait and would like to apologise for this. Unfortunately it is not the experience we aim to provide and our staff continuously work to try and minimize this, even during times of high demand.

I am glad staff, in recognising the long wait, arranged for your child to be seen in ED and that the care received was excellent and prompt. I am unable to comment as to why this was not done earlier in your child's journey but although it appeared quiet on arrival, this may not have been the case at an earlier time.

I will be sure to pass your lovely comments on and also highlight the need to ensure prompt flow between departments when possible to prevent unnecessary long wait.

I hope your child is feeling better and recovering well.

Best Wishes,

Leanne
