"A strong sense of real care and honesty"

(as a service user),

Late Feb visited GP re tiredness and weight loss.

GP saw my heart risk and melanoma history and referred me to RDE Hospital at once.

Careful heart checks were done then a scan the next day re weight loss. A metastasis was found. Every department I was referred to had updated notes which they had read before I got to them. The My care app was doing exactly what it was designed for.

I had my first scan for cancer two days later at Nightingale Centre. In eight weeks I had seven scans including US guided biopsy (found malignant).

All staff including healthcare assistants were positive, caring people who made a worrying time much more pleasant.

Thanks to the pre op assessment nurse asserting a sense of urgency I was scheduled for a double surgery in April with a vascular surgeon and a urologist on call in case of expected complications.

I have had a detailed review of my medication to minimise risks and to make targeted therapy as good as possible.

My surgery was successful with clear margins thanks to the speed with which I was treated.

This whole process was littered with tea, biscuits and empathy at every turn. A strong sense of real care and honesty, especially from Cleo and Tamer has been displayed leaving  me sure I have been in the care of NHS finest. The Devon health trust has earned my respect and admiration and with therapy starting in 2 weeks I continue to be amazed and grateful.

Watching nurses post op entering data direct onto what appear to be phones was fascinating, so has been the community nursing care where my drain bottle was checked and notes entered into the app. Every nurse that visited already knew my status and progress.

I hear that other health trusts refuse this technology. They should realise that quality staff using such clever tech are unbeatable. I received cardiac care in another trust and though it was good, it was nowhere near as fast and efficient as Devon Health Care!

I am fully recovered with no problems and I thank all the staff, medical and auxiliary for their skill, their care and their kindness.

NHS England should know that RDandE Hospital is definitely a centre of excellence.
