I was referred into the family support hub because my oldest daughter was not attending school as she was assaulted in school. We were allocated a worker called Gillian who used a person centred approach to my daughter's issues. Gillian helped me with contacting the school and attending meetings with the school building my confidence up to speak to the school staff. Gillian helped my daughter by taking her out into the community and letting her attend a teenage group to help build up her self esteem.
With Gillian's help my daughter went back to on a phased return, was back in school full time, and sat 4 NAT5 prelims and exams.
Gillian also noticed that my other daughter was needing a bit of help and she took her on outings to the park etc, and spoke to her school on my behalf. She recognised that my daughter may need to be on the neurodevelopmental pathway and my daughter was placed on the list to be assessed for autism. Gillian also got my daughter enhanced transitions to high school. Doing this has helped my daughter feel more comfortable going to high school.
Gillian also helped build my self esteem up by referring me to the All About Me mums group and for alternative therapies and the parent/carer drop in. I now feel strong enough to speak to the school on my own and attend meetings on my own and I did this recently with my youngest daughter's school. My mental health has also improved and I don't think I could have done this without Gillian's help.
I would recommend the family support hub to anyone that is struggling with any aspect of their parenting.
