"Failed at every corner"

About: Dr Gray's Hospital / Stroke

(as a relative),

My partner had a haemorrhagic stroke the first week of lock down.

He was released less than 48 hours after with no follow up care,  instructions, appointments etc. He was just left.

He is becoming progressively worse. He falls over, is forgetful and is in constant pain with his left side weakness just to mention a few side effects. We finally got to see a GP face to face and have been referred to physio and neurology. As mentioned, he is becoming a lot worse and we have been on the waiting list for neurology for months but at times he can no longer remember our children's names, this is how bad it can be.

He had one face to face appointment with physio. He got exercises which he found too difficult and we were asked to go back and for him to wear shorts on the next appointment. We arrived and he was discharged, nothing, no going over the exercises that we said were too difficult, no physical check etc, nothing.

We were told he would be referred to HCSW physio team in the community but due to the severity of his condition I was not happy with this. I received an email stating that the team in DGH physio department was not a suitable referral as they do not deal with stroke victims; I was rather surprised the referral had went there if this was the case and that this department accepted it. I have had no further correspondence.

We were also told that Chest Heart and Stroke would be more suitable. I am not sure if they refer us there or we self refer. I have asked but, again, still waiting for a reply.

With the stroke he had there is a higher chance he may have dementia but despite asking we have not been referred to adult psych although, in my opinion, if it is dementia he needs to start medication as soon as possible.

We have asked for MRI scans and CT scans but, again, nothing. He is left deteriorating in front of my eyes despite asking for help on many occasions.  He said by the time he finally gets an appointment he will be dead as he knows something is wrong.

He can no longer work because of all this but we have been left to purchase all his aids, shower seat, bed rail, grabbers etc.

He is being failed at every corner.

Dear rhinozj96

Could you please try sending the email again as I've not received it. Please copy Alan Bulcraig (professonal lead physiotherapist) into this email too, as he will also be assisting with this.

alan.bulcraig@nhs.scot

Many thanks

Niki
