Had an amazing experience for my first birth at The Royal thanks to all the fantastic staff there. Georgia was my first midwife to bring me onto the labour ward and she could not have been better suited for the role. I had waited a little over 4 hours to get a labour room so was in pain and quite frustrated. She handled my attitude and situation with ease and grace. Made sure I got comfortable immediately and provided a fan as I was extremely hot. She was kind and patient throughout the full night letting me know what was going to happen etc, she put me at ease.
Gillian and student midwife Mhairi took over in the morning and I couldn't have asked for better midwives to go through the next nearly 12 hours. They were a perfect team and exactly the type of personality and assistance I needed for my delivery. They were with me every step of the way, even when we had to opt for an emergency c section. Our anesthesiologist (apologies I can't remember his name) was great as well explaining everything to me and how I would be feeling when certain drugs would take effect and explaining what was happening behind the curtain. Throughout the surgery and the care after they were wonderful and can not thank them enough. Mhairi will make an amazing midwife at your hospital and I would implore the Hospital to hire her when she is fully qualified.
After my recovery I was transferred to Ward 68 where I was greeted by the wonderful Amy who immediately put me at ease. She was caring while also being direct with instructions. I was in significant pain after the c section and she calmed me down right away and told me it was okay to ask for pain relief as I had had a major surgery and justified the way I felt. She was wonderful to talk to and put our minds at ease, especially when the long wait for discharge was starting to take a toll on us. She was able to do our discharge and the information she provided was precise and she double checked with us on everything that we understood our next steps and also who to contact if we required help.
All of the staff on Ward 68 were phenomenal though, everyone that came in was brilliant and always offering advice, especially with feeding when needed. It was a brilliant experience after having not the most ideal birth. Also a shout out to student midwife Ava (I believe that was her name) she was also great when coming around to do my vitals, always giving me a smile when I didn't feel like it myself!
I will be telling everyone about my experience at the royal and I thank all the staff there for an amazing experience I had.
