"A solid service under real pressure"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

I attended at A&E with a suspected pneumothorax - didn't wait for GP appointment and skipped NHS24, as I suspected they'd both tell me to just go straight to A&E.

Triaged in 20 minutes, seen at hour 5 by an incredibly kind, attentive and expert consultant. Test done, advice given and discharged. Consultant couldn't find a free room to give the results of the test so was flexible and asked if we could just do it in the corridor. I was more than happy to take any flexibly to go home and he obliged.

Every bed was full, most often with elderly individuals waiting for ward space. All in all - I was treated with respect and decency from the consultant to the student radiographer that performed the chest xray.

I would say that the seats in the dept we all solid wood, not comfortable, and fairly anti-human. Not the staffs fault, just the planners.

dear foxtrotmb49,

thank you so much for taking the time to submit a care opinion. I hope this finds you feeling much better. I am sorry that our department was busy and you had to have your consultation in the corridor, this is not the ideal location we would like our patients to be assessed but I understand that this was probably the quickest solution to get you finally home, thank you for being so understanding about it. I have passed your comments re the chairs to our estates department/ procurement and going forward to be aware that patients who are having lengthy waits need seats to comfortable!

I will pass on your lovely praise to our Consultant and the radiology department.

with very kind regards,

Karen
