"Excellent care"

I recently underwent my first cataract surgery and laser treatment at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

I am writing to thank all the staff who took care of me that afternoon. From the time I arrived to the time of discharge I found all interactions with the staff excellent. In particular I wish to thank my Consultant Mr Sheth and Mr Melardi, who performed the procedure.

Beforehand Mr Melardi discussed the procedure with me in a straightforward manner so that I was fully prepared for it. The operation itself was quick and painless - it was over just as I thought it had started! The laser treatment was also quick.

Afterwards in the recovery suite, I was treated to tea and biscuits, and was given  a full briefing on eye drops to take, and precautions to take when back at home. All the staff were extremely pleasant which helped to make my visit a very positive experience. Please pass my thanks to the theatre staff.

The next morning, on taking off the eye patch, I quickly appreciated clarity of long sight and of true colours. I am amazed how cataract surgery can have such an immediate positive result.

I have just had a follow up consultation with Mr Sheth - eye healing is normal and ocular pressure is down. I shall be looking forward to repeating this procedure on my other eye.
