"My brother's final stay in hospital"

About: Western General Hospital / Medicine of the elderly

(as a relative),

My brother had advanced pancreatic cancer with multiple liver secondaries. He was admitted in some discomfort after a sudden deterioration in his condition on Saturday night. The staff on ward 72 at the Western General Hospital quickly managed his pain and made him comfortable. He died peacefully in his sleep the following day.

I am impressed that the nurses and doctors took time to telephone the family and keep us abreast of developments (we live at great distance from Edinburgh). They were kind and compassionate and although we were not able to get to the hospital in time, they made us feel involved in what was happening.

All the family want to record their thanks and praise for the professionalism and care that was shown to our brother.

I'm deeply sorry for your loss.

I am glad your brother received compassionate and professional care during his final moments, which is a testament to the dedication of the staff at Ward 72.

I'm glad that their efforts to keep your family informed, despite the distance, provided some comfort during such a difficult time.

Your gratitude towards the nurses and doctors is truly touching, and I'm sure they will appreciate knowing how much their kindness and professionalism meant to you and your family. Please accept my heartfelt condolences.
