"Surprised by the lovely level of care"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire

(as the patient),

I am a diabetic and recently have had to have the libra machine fitted, the one on your arm.  Well it needs to be fitted by a health professional ideally but after going to various health centres locally i couldn't find anyone to help me, no registered nurses available.  I managed the best I could doing it myself but after a couple of weeks, two nights ago the alarm went off as it needed replacing.  I was in a bit of a state wondering what to do do.

Yesterday, I realised I needed help so I got myself up and dressed at 6.30am and decided I needed to see someone that day.  The machine had originally come from Motherwell so I decided to get a taxi to Motherwell Health Centre on Windmill Lane to see if they could help.  I left my home at 7.30am expecting to arrive back home around 5.30pm.  Well, I could not believe it.  When I arrived there was a man at the door who walked me through to the reception area and gave me a chair to sit in while I waited as because it was early there was no other staff around.  I then realised that my phone needed charging and he assisted with that also.  He was kind, polite and brilliant.

When a nurse arrived, he told her about me and she, Jayne came over and listened to my concerns.  She was so friendly and helpful and told me she would be able to sort the machine for me.  I felt like she was a 'gift'.  She took me into a room, sorted the machine, took readings, tests etc to make sure everything was set up correctly.  She treated me like I was special.  She even helped me with my bags.  She was so kind, caring and gentle and told me i was welcome to go back and see her anytime.  They were both so kind and caring I just had to give them a cuddle.

At a time when our NHS is taking a beating and everyone is moaning I wanted to tell you that I am grateful for our NHS and the lovely lovely people that work there.
