I was diagnosed with cancer at the end of last year. Surgery was deemed very risky due to other health complications and weight issues. It was decided that my operation would be postponed for a few months in order for me to get fitter and lose some weight.
I was referred to Joe, who is the Friends of the Cancer Centre physical activity coach. Joe has been fantastic and the exercise programme he did with me was suited to my physical needs.
This programme has not only helped me physically but also mentally. I am now at the stage of getting surgery and feel so much more ready to be able to deal with this. The wraparound service from the NHS consultants , doctors, nurses, support and specialist staff has been amazing throughout this whole process.
The programme Joe runs does not just help you at the time but gives you the skills and confidence to be able to make exercise a part of your daily routine . I really feel that this will help so many people who may be struggling to implement exercise into their day to day life either through physical restraints or lack of confidence.
I can’t thank Joe enough for giving me the confidence to be able to participate in exercise and know this has definitely had a big impact on my recovery process.
