"Not enough information"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I had a biopsy carried out in gynaecology department, i was told i would receive a letter in a couple of weeks with the results, expectation if all was ok i would be discharged from the service.

i received a letter, informing me of an appointment for 3 weeks time, the appointment was for a telephone consultation. i received the letter on a Friday and had to wait all weekend before i could call to find out why an appointment had been made. all weekend i was thinking the worst, as why else would an appointment been made.

When I called on Monday, the secretary was able to look at what had happened and uncovered that not enough was gathered to test and the consultant was going to call to see if i wanted to do another or if the symptoms had eased and it was not necessary.

I explained that had they of just said that on the letter it would have saved me an anxious weekend.

Dear peppernb83

Thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback.

I am sorry to hear that you felt like you had not received enough information following your gynaecology appointment. I expect a standard clinic appointment letter was sent to you in the post which would not have any further information attached to it. I understand why this would have caused you anxiety.

I will feed this back to the Clinicians and ask them to contact patients with further information in the future to stop this from happening to other patients.

Please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss this further. My email is louise.errol@nhs.net.

Many thanks for getting intouch

Louise
