"Excellent service and team work"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Accident & Emergency Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Renal and Transplant Services (Ward 4a, 4d)

(as a service user),

I attended QEUH A&E in mid June and was seen in the Majors dept. I was seen very promptly and assessment made prior to the dr then seeing me. The dr who attended to me was very pleasant and reassuring, she very quickly pointed out what ,in her opinion was wrong with me and referred to the renal medical staff on call. I was seen very quickly by the renal medical dr who very promptly carried out further tests and confirmed what he thought to be the problem. He was very reassuring and explained everything in great detail and made arrangements for me to be seen the following day.

I received a call at 0800 the following day from the Renal Day unit to ask me to attend for further investigations, I was very impressed at how quickly this had been processed

On arrival at the Renal day unit ,I was met by an extremely pleasant team who explained everything in great detail about the next steps .

As a retired SCN, and having a degree of knowledge and also just having lost my mum a few weeks ago , I was still trying to cope with the t*raumatic journey that she had had, the staff were extremely reassuring and supportive.

I was kept up to date with times for the various tests to be carried out.

The medical and nursing staff who did my biopsy were excellent and explained each step of the way what was going on.

The staff looking after me in the Renal Day unit after the procedure were very attentive ensuring that I was comfortable and providing cups of tea and something to eat. The team work in the unit was excellent and they should be very proud of how they work together. I was kept up to date at all times with what the next steps were

It was very clear that patient care is the priority for all the staff in the unit.

I was transferred to Ward 4d for ongoing care later that day

On arrival to the ward,I was met by an extremely pleasant and welcoming staff nurse ,I apologise to the missing of names but can only recall a few, therefore will not mention any as they were all excellent!

During my stay in ward 4d, I again felt very safe and reassured and each of the staff that I met was professional, kind, and understanding.

Both of the consultants that I met gave excellent explanation of what to expect and again I felt very reassured and safe .

The one thing that was very clear to me during this stay was the team work in both units, each and every staff member that I encountered was highly professional and compassionate with patient care being their top priority.

I am well aware of the constraints that all healthcare professionals are under these days but in this dept I was not made to feel like they were under pressure and they took time to chat and reassure me and did recognise that I am fragile at the moment ,especially with recent events and for that I am eternally grateful.

The one thing that I am so impressed with during this journey is that I was seen, diagnosed and treatment plan started in less than 48 hours! The organisation within the team is first class.

This is my first experience of the Renal unit and there are not enough words to say how impressed I am with each and every team member that I have met . You should all be very proud of the work that you do .

Dear Regent

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your recent experience at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Your message is incredibly moving, and we are truly grateful for your kind words and thoughtful reflections.

We are so pleased to hear that from your arrival at A&E through to your care in the Renal Day Unit and Ward 4D, you felt safe, supported, and well cared for. It is heartening to know that the professionalism, compassion, and teamwork of our staff made such a positive impact during what was clearly a very difficult and emotional time for you.

Your background as a retired Senior Charge Nurse brings a unique perspective, and your recognition of the team's efforts—especially in the context of the pressures facing healthcare services—is appreciated. It is especially meaningful to hear that staff were able to offer you reassurance and kindness as you continue to cope with the recent loss of your mum.

We will ensure your feedback is shared with all the teams involved in your care.

Take Care

Nicole

Dear Regent,

I hope this finds you well, thank you so much for your lovely care opinion about your recent attendance to the emergency department and admission to the renal unit. That sounded a worrying time for you, I am delighted that every member of staff you encountered throughout your journey treated you with professionalism, kindness and compassion. Our staff really do appreciate getting such positive feedback, they work extremely hard in often difficult circumstances, and to know that their care and attention is appreciated by the patients they are looking after means so much - thank you. I will pass on your lovely comments to all the teams,

I hope you're feeling much better now.

with very kind regards,

Karen
