"Nothing but admiration and gratitude"

About: Borders General Hospital / Accident & Emergency Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Trauma and Orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I was in the garden, chopping some wood with a small chainsaw. I don't know exactly how it happened, but somehow the chainsaw caught on my trousers and it was pulled towards my leg. It took less than a second for the machine to stop,  but the damage was done: a large de-gloving injury, skin, tendons, muscles severed and bone damaged. I was in agony, we wrapped the leg the best we could and my partner drove me to A&E at Borders General Hospital (BGH).

From the BGH i was transferred to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where I had an operation and stayed for 5 nights. They managed to save my foot, and i am now recovering at home. From the moment we arrived at BGH, until now, I felt extremely well cared for and I don't have enough words of appreciation for everyone I met and that helped me. Thank you so much! District nurses will come twice a week to change the dressing, and I should be well enough to start physiotherapy in about 2 weeks.  As I said, I have nothing but admiration and gratitude for all the people involved in my care so far.
