"Uninformed about medication"

About: New Stobhill Hospital / Gynaecology Clinic

(as a relative),

My mum attended this clinic in 2023 and was prescribed an ongoing oestradiol pessary after having a normal ultrasound. She was in her early 60s and postmenopausal. She had avoided any type of Hrt due to her fear of developing cancer before this and so when she was prescribed this drug she asked the doctor about cancer risk.

She was reassured it was completely safe. This is contrary to the NICE guidelines on the use of this drug in postmenopausal women - she should have been told that the risk is unknown and warned of the signs of endometrial cancer and to get checked and stop use of the drug if there was any. She was not. When she developed vaginal bleeding after a year of using this drug she was unaware that she should stop.

If she had known there was any risk at all she would not have used it. She died in May this year of endometrial cancer, believing it was the use of this drug that triggered it.
