"My mum"

About: Royal Albert Edward Infirmary / High dependency unit

(as a relative),

My mum was in Astley ward for her final days . The care and compassion all the staff gave to my mum and me was amazing . The doctors gave regular updates on my mum's poor Heath both face to face and by telephone calls . My mum became very poorly quite quickly but all the staff helped her to maintain her Independence and dignity until the end . Mum was in a severe amount of pain but she didn’t have to wait to get her medication .

The nursing team moved us from the ward to a side room as my mum was too unwell to be transferred to a hospice which the Pallative care team had arranged for a bed with our wishes .

A patient was already in the side room but the staff discussed our circumstances and they agreed to move . The NHS staff get a lot of bad press and we never see the good that they do .

I could not of got through that moment without the entire team they were all truly amazing with my mum and us as a family . I thank the whole of the team that was involved looking after my mum in her final days , you were all truly amazing , the comfort that this has given me you would never believe. You made a very difficult time easier for me to cope with , always checking in on me and asking if I needed anything .

Thank you team Astley & Wigan hospital .
