"Amazing caring staff throughout my hysterectomy "

About: Thornbury Hospital (Sheffield)

I had been under Thornbury hospital since July 2023 after medical secretary at my GPsChanged it to urgent . I was suffering with continuous bleeding due to fibroids . After trying various different treatment s last year in July I decided the only way for me was a full hysterectomy so my consultant booked me an appointment with I met him he was a lovely man we agreed Febuary onwards for the date . I was expecting a letter to drop through post in Jan offering me a Feb date but nothing . I contacted the hospital they said they were chasing up In April after several phone calls I finally got given 12 th June I planned my whole days around this date and geared up for it . On the 4 th of June saying they maybe a possibility of canceling the Operation due to no anethistist which left my world in turmoil on Fri my fears where confirmed . The lady offered me to change consultant I was a bit concerned about switching but as she explained my other consultant didn't come with anesthetist so it could happen again so I met the new consultant Monday 10 th and we agreed 18 th June . He already had a guaranteed anesthetist . So I stressed right up till I walked into hospital that it would be canceled . From walking in the staff was amazing I was taken to my private room on mappin ward and one by one I met health care practitioner , nurses , Drs , physio , anesthetist and my consultant all were so reassuring and lovely with amazing advice I can't thank them enough . Then at 5.30 ish an amazing nurse from the anesthetist team came to get me that team I can't thank enough as I was scared . The surgery went well and I woke up in recovery room again with another great team around me even though I was groggy they gave me meds I was quickly back on the wards the night staff were lovely asking if I needed anything and the day staff team were just as amazing such good care and support even when I was at most anxious the nurse in charge on Thursday was amazing support and encouragement and her health care assistant couldn't do enough for me . The catering staff also were amazing the food was tasty I struggled to eat much due to feeling sick from the meds but the coffee was stunning .my consultant came to see me and I couldn't thank enough for what he'd done and fitting me in . I was able to come home on Fri I liked how the meds were sorted the day before and locked in a cupboard so I didn't have to wait for discharge like I have had to wait hours at Rotherham hospital for sons discharge due to meds . The discharge nurse was also lovely and got a wheel chair to the car . Everyone o encountered couldnt do enough for me . I also want to thank the team for been so efficient at sorting this for me to happen so quickly . I felt reasured and this helped my anxiety . From the bottom of my heart a massive thankyou to everyone .
