"I've never been so concerned and worried for my daughter"

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter was advised to go to hospital by her gp as her heart was racing and her blood pressure low and the GP thought she was at risk of sespis and want her put on drip for antibiotics and fluid.

Once in Monklands she never received any of this. My daughter couldn't pass urine and was having difficulty because she had a bad UTI and in the A&E she was unsteady on her feet and almost fell to ground taking me with her, as I was helping her back to chair. Not one member of staff helped but another person who was awaiting to been seen came over and helped me get my daughter into a seat.

Then once in medical assessment unit she was unsteady on feet and almost fell over trying to get to bathroom. I'm in my 70s and look after my daughter and I asked the nurse for help, only to get a reply I'm not insured for that, so I had no help with my daughter who basically was completely out of and had just wet the bed.

Once in refresh bed my daughter began having these like hiccup fits she couldn't talk and she was finding it hard to catch her breath as she has asthma but I call for help, got none, it was scary and I got up went for help and the nurse came in.

She was later on seen by the doctor, who said they'd give her all these different scans to check her over.  By time she got her first bladder scan her anxiety levels where through the roof and when nurse pressed down on parts of her area they where sore as the lady done the bladder scan and the nurse advised she tell the doctor.

She was to get a CT and another scan but come changeover another doctor ruled all that out and kept her on the same antibiotics that GP thought might not be working. Basically nobody listened to her concerns or done anything to help and what they promised they changed, my daughter did not feel safe in their care.

This new doctor wanted my daughter on metronidazole and trimethoprim together for health reasons, but my daughter didn't want that as she been on so many antibiotics it's ruined her immune system with UTI she keeps getting but over her four day stay she kept getting them in her medication pill but my daughter want to take trimethoprim first and then start metronidazole after.

Also in medical assessment a nurse asked me to leave so she could speak to my daughter, this being about the fact she had thrush and the nurse being in my words rude to hint my daughter didn't wash right as that's how she got and questioned her on stuff. Well here's the truth my daughter has bath everyday and has bacterial vaginosis and thrush and UTI due to continue use of antibiotics she needs to clear up UTI and she put on strong painkiller and for so reasons her legs were tested now sometimes she couldn't feel the pin or wool as the doctor tested her leg  struggles as she suffers from limited mobility I don't know will this was done.

Then she was put on ward 17 with the answer being for staying in UTI but again she had another fit and nobody came to help till fellow patient pressed their buzzer for help. She also suffered racing heart again and low blood pressure which was not addressed, though after she had fit again they allowed me to take her our for some fresh air to help and nurse did get her wheelchair and at some point she pee herself again and was embarrassed, but the nurse who helped her with shower was great as she limited mobility.

She was moved to ward 7 completed nightmare no reasons as to why or what was happening till I asked and you don't get to choose what you eat more it's what they give you but what if you have allergy or something 🤔 and I could write more so much more.

I've never been so concerned and worried for my daughter as yes she does suffer from mental health condition but in there it only made it sky rocket and not every doctor or nurse is the same as some are completely lovely and brilliant but others aren't.

Why wasn't I given help when my daughter almost fell? Why was it left to me and another patient in A&E because if she hurt herself or me that would have been a bigger accident and why did my daughter's concerns go unanswered and why did that nurse think they could question my daughter like that? Why was my daughter also not told about some of the medication she be receiving on discharge and why wasn't her racing heart and low blood pressure checked out?

There was no addressing these hiccups fits she was taking as you don't just lose your voice or have it effected your asthma for nothing.  Why wasn't she told certain things about treatment going and left out the loop on things and yet she told you stuff about what had been going on but I think you totally wrote her off and didn't listen.

Hi Larkins 54

Thank you for taking time to post on care opinion. I am so sorry that you have had this experience when attending the hospital with your daughter. I can only imagine how distressing this must have felt for you both.

We want to make things better for all our patients and all feedback is valuable to us.

It would be helpful if you could contact Patient Affairs at University Hospital Monklands so that they can understand the issues in more detail and collate all the information from the various wards and departments you have mentioned.
