"Emergency depeartment visit"

I am writing to provide feedback on the treatment I received at the Emergency Department of Dorset County Hospital.

I recently attended the ED seeking emergency care, and unfortunately I experienced what I believe to be inappropriate and possibly discriminatory behaviour from a staff member.

This is not the first time I’ve had a negative interaction with this staff member — a similar incident occurred in February 2025. During that visit, my medical history was not taken properly, and I was sent home. Unfortunately, my condition worsened, and I had to be admitted to the hospital for two days shortly afterward. At the time, I chose to let it go, understanding that mistakes can happen.

However, during my most recent visit, I experienced the same pattern of unprofessional behaviour. While taking my medical history, the member of staff made sarcastic comments in response to my answers, which made me feel uncomfortable and dismissed. Their attitude gave the impression that I was wasting their time or that my presence there was not justified. I found this especially troubling given the vulnerable state patients are in when seeking emergency care.

I am offering this feedback in the hope that this kind of interaction can be avoided in the future. My concern is that I live in the area, and if I ever need to attend the Emergency Department again, I may encounter the same staff member. The thought of receiving similar treatment during a vulnerable moment is distressing.

I understand that every individual has their own personality, but I do feel that the behaviour I experienced may reflect a bias, possibly racial, as I am not a white patient. Regardless of intent, I respectfully request that all patients be treated with empathy and respect. When people come to the ED, it is not by choice — it is because they need help. A dismissive or sarcastic attitude in such moments can be deeply hurtful and damaging.

I apologize if any part of this message comes across as offensive — that is not my intention. I am simply sharing my experience in the spirit of constructive feedback, with the hope that it will help improve patient care for everyone.
