"Laparoscopy For endometriosis"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Day Surgery

(as the patient),

I was in for my second lap in mid June to treat further endometriosis due to pain. I am terrified of being put to sleep and gives me panic attacks and I’m not the best patient due to that.

When I was in 3 years ago for my first lap I had the most amazing Anaesthetists John who made it so much more easier and I genuinely don’t think I would have managed unless it was for John.

It was with a new consultant too, Dr Eissa who I hadn’t met before, I would like to say thank you for being so kind, taking the time to explain things to me and not rushing , you listened to any questions I had and you made sure I understood everything you explained , I went home with lots of information and facts which was nice as sometimes you are left feeling unsure.

Thank you for taking the time before and after my op and showing great compassion with me.

On the up run to my lap on Wednesday I kept saying I know it won’t but it be amazing if it was John again as he made me feel safe and I trusted him.

I got taken to the ward and straight away Tom an Anaesthetist came to see me and I expressed my concerns and was upset and he helped calm me down and reassure me, I explained I was terrified before for my first lap and was sorry to be upset, Tom was great so calm, kind and reassuring.

Then around the curtain another Anaesthetist appeared and introduced himself and my eyes lit up as it was John from 3 years ago and I explained to him how he did my first lap 3 years ago and how amazing he was then and I said again I couldn’t of done it without him then.

We had a chat and expressed all my concerns again and both of them were amazing.

Later on it was time for my op and one of the nurses came to get me and I got upset and she took the time with me to chat, go through my worries she didn’t rush me, she made me feel cared for and I felt I could trust her and I felt a relief knowing she would be there through out my operation as she said she’d be there the whole time.

Before we left John appeared and he said come on take my arm you can do this! John coming to get me from the ward also meant so much to me , I already had so much trust in him but it again made me feel so safe having him and the amazing nurses showing great care and compassion and it’s what I needed with the fear I have of being put to sleep ! When we got to the room I was met by Tom again and another amazing nurse,  the nurses where called Debbie and Jess and they are an absolute credit to the NHS along with John and Tom.

The nurses held my hand made me feel safe and secure even though I was freaking out, they made sure I knew I had them there for me the whole time, they are an asset to the NHS and I want them to know how thankful I am, I felt so safe and supported with having them there for me.

The whole ordeal getting put to sleep is horrendous to me and I wish it wasn’t but I can honestly say if I hadn’t have had John the first time in 2022 I honestly don’t think I would have managed and to get him again on Wednesday that was luck. I don’t think I will ever not find it scary but if I had to get another op soon I genuinely would feel less anxious about it and that’s because how John spoke to me about it all and how he dealt and cared for me. John is a truly amazing Anaesthetist shows amazing people skills and his care levels couldn’t be higher. He is genuinely the best and NHS Fife should be so proud to have him as there Anaesthetist as he is truly spectacular and I honestly felt so safe knowing he was the Anaesthetist and if I ever got another operation if I could I’d be requesting John as I would feel so much less worry.

I am so grateful for John he is a truly amazing within his role and can’t thank him enough! He checked on me after my op twice as well and he honestly is just amazing and I’m so grateful for him as he made it possible and easier for me once again ! John is a true asset for the whole of the NHS.

Tom was also the other Anaesthetist on my operation that day and I’d like to say a massive thank you as from the start you where so kind, calm, reassuring and gave me nothing but respect and I really appreciate the time you gave me and you made me feel so safe and secure. You and John make a fantastic team and you are a truly great Anaesthetist!

There was so much more than what I can write about my experience but I just can’t thank you all enough you made me feel nothing but safe, secure , cared for and you gave me dignity.

I’m honestly so grateful and yous should all be so proud of how amazing yous all are as health care professionals , you are all truly amazing and I’m so grateful for everything John, Tom, Jess and Debbie did and how you cared for me.

I don’t think words express how much I appreciate the care you all gave and how much it meant to me.

I’m forever great full and will never forget how much you all helped me and made it possible.

Thank you so much I am forever appreciative of your help and care.

Dear Leoxy66

Thank you for taking the time to share feedback and show your appreciation for the team that looked after you for your procedure. It is great to see that you were put at ease and from past experience be lucky to get the same anaesthetist. I hope that you continue to be reassured should you need to come for surgery in the future. I will share your very kind words with the team who will appreciate them very much. We wish you well in your recovery.
