"A rheumatology appointment"

About: Ayrshire Central Hospital / Rheumatology

(as a service user),

I have been diagnosed with psoristic arthritis for 5 years now. Put onto sulfasalazine but it wasnt working and my pain was worsening. Usual rheumatologist said there were no more options and I was deflated. 

My most recent appointment, I saw Dr. Shetty. He listened carefully and asked questions. Thoroughly examined my joints. And we'd very compassionate. It was totally unexpected, especially my first time seeing him! He then explained there are actually a lot of options. He took into account my other medical issues and prescribed me with new medication. He took a lot of time to go over it with me, and explained everything fully. I felt so comfortable. He immediately arranged my x rays, bloods and everything. I felt overwhelmed. He was extremely caring, compassionate and reassuring. I could tell immediately from that appointment he was an excellent doctor. I would totally recommend him.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to share this lovely feedback about the care provided by the Rheumatology Service at Ayrshire Central Hospital.

I sorry to hear that your medication for psoristic arthritis wasn’t helping your pain and that your condition was getting worse. It is, however good to know that Dr Shetty was able to listen to you, assess your symptoms, arrange further tests and offer some alternative medication. It’s often the small things that can make such a difference, such as taking time to listen and explaining everything that can result in a positive patient experience and this is a lovely example of the patient centred care that we strive to provide.

When times are challenging, it’s always nice to hear such positive feedback from our patients and it will be my pleasure to share your feedback with the wider Team in the clinic and with Dr Shetty in particular.
