"Cardiac rehab"

About: Community Services (Adult Physical Health) / Cardiac Rehabilitation Physiotherapy

(as a service user),

I have recently completed my cardiac rehab sessions after having a heart attack in February.

I was very athletic before my HA which is why it was a massive shock. I’m 45, exercise is a big part of my life and I trained every day to an intensive level.

After the HA my confidence took a big knock and I was worried about exercising and whether it would bring on another attack.

The physio helped me in many ways but mostly for me it was my confidence. I went into the advanced physio class and it really helped me to find a way back. Even after I had a little set back, the advice and encouragement I received enabled me to keep going and whilst I know I may not ever get back to my old normal, I’m more than happy with where I am now and I’m content with my new normal,.

It was a fantastic experience and a massive help in my recovery.

I can’t thank the team enough.

Thank you so much for your feedback, which I will share with the team. We don't underestimate how scary it can be to have a heart attack, particularly when so young and fit - this is one of the reasons we set up the higher intensity/ advanced group at the Dome. We are so glad we were able to support you back to your "new normal" through attending this group and that you are confident in exercising and managing your condition. We wish you all the very best for your ongoing recovery!
