"spoken to rudely"

About: Treatment rooms / Enniskillen (Erne HC)

(as a service user),

I had an appointment for a blood test in the morning at the treatment room in Enniskillen Health Centre. But we had a bereavement in the family and I couldn't attend. So I went earlier to ask if I could possibly be taken earlier or if not if I could change the appointment. I really didn't want to just not show up, and waste the appointment that someone could use.

The nurse I asked was very abrupt with me and very rude to be honest. They showed absolutely no empathy and just told me no, and that if I wanted another appointment I would have to go back to my GP and ask for a new appointment.

I understand that this is the way it works. But my feedback is about the way the nurse spoke to me. They weren't at all understanding or empathic. They treated me like a child and in front of other people. I felt it was inappropriate. They have notices everywhere saying that they won't tolerate rudeness to their staff, which is fair enough. But I felt the way that nurse spoke to me was very rude and unprofessional.

Hello brannp89

My name is Sr Sinead McGurren, Treatment Room Manager. Thankyou for your feedback, firstly I am sorry to read of your family bereavement and your recent experience of the treatment room.

I have shared this feed back to the treatment Room staff and how you felt a staff member was rude and abrupt. I have spoken to all staff members of the importance of Core Values of the Western Trust and the importance of treating all patients with respect and dignity, good communication is pivotal in the Treatment Room and the care of all patients.

From your story it is unclear if you were able to rearrange another appointment. The following Gp Practice reception staff can make treatment room appointments direct - Lakeside Medical practice, Devenish Practice, Dr Toal & Dr Maguire Practice and Dr Mallon & Dr McConville Practice, Dr Cathcart's Practice are unable to directly make Treatment room appointment's. The Treatment room has a clerical staff member Monday to Friday 9am -12.45 pm the contact number is 02866342417.

I hope this response has been helpful and I wish you all the best

kind regards

Sr McGurren
