"Pilgrim Hospital Ward 12 Boston"

About: Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust / Inpatient mental health care

(as a service user),

I was admitted to Ward 12 of Boston Pilgrim Hospital, UK, in the Department of Psychology. I had a horrifying experience there while I was detained under the Mental Health Act with psychosis.

My general needs were ignored, I could not get meals at regular times, it was almost impossible to get new bedding, and I was ignored when I asked to have a bath/shower. I was also ignored when I asked for a toothbrush and toothpaste. It was practically impossible to see a Doctor, and I was given medication that was not appropriate for my condition, and I struggled to get it changed.

After a few weeks, I had managed in my stupor to convince doctors to go back to a previous medication that had side effects but which stopped me from hallucinating. I was also fearful of my belongings being stolen by other patients, and I couldn't get access to fresh clothes in my wardrobe because it was locked, and it wasn't easy to get someone to open it. This is not a review of the general hospital, but specifically Ward 12.

I'm just grateful I got out alive.
