My dad has recently passed away and spent the last month of his life in Diana, Princess of Wales hospital. The care he received was absolutely diabolical.
Left with his alarm on when he was asking for things (sometimes over 45 minutes), no dignity or respect was shown to him throughout his entire stay. I will not go into the full details out of respect for my dad but let's just say basic needs were far from met.
The hospital did not tell us there was a chance he could die and we was called the next morning to say he had passed. They said the nurses sat with him when they found him unresponsive. Where was our phone call at this point? Why wasn't we told that our dad was dying so we could come sit with him in his last moments?
When he first arrived, they didn't even do the basic care, we had to remind the nurses or washes, remind them that they hadn't done any oral care in a week, complain about his sores. My dad was a family man, able, proud, working and always do anything to help anyone, but the treatment he received in this hospital sent him into a deep depression where he felt he no longer wanted to fight his illness anymore.
Myself and my entire family have now lost full faith in the NHS and we will never forgive what happened in that hospital, to a person who just wanted to get better and go home to his family.
Disgusting.
