"MRI and CT,"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Xrays and scans

(as a service user),

Having had to attend many appointments lately, endoscopy, colonoscopy CT and MRI, all have taken place by professional and polite staff until the MRI.

I found the clinical nurses wonderful but the MRI Radiographers, very off hand, as the contrast I had to drink had not taken I was taken out of the machine and told to sit back in the waiting area, take my clothes with me from the locker and walk up and down. I only had a small handbag and had to carry all items of clothing in full view of everyone in the waiting area, whilst wearing hospital scanning clothes. Not very dignified.

On Asking why the prep had not worked not much of an answer was given but, said maybe full of faeces! You can imagine how I felt, a bit distressed and asking if this happens a lot did not get much of a reply.

I was incredibly anxious about the scan, being claustrophobic, and this didn’t help matters. A friendly reassuring response would have been sufficient but I was made to feel I was holding the staff up, scan was completed but prep still not fully through, very sad and home very upset.

All other staff I cannot fault one bit infact they were wonderful.

Thank you for posting this story about your experience at your recent scan appointment. I am very sorry to hear that the treatment that you received from our staff did not meet the standard that we normally offer.

All our staff are normally very kind and promote the values of NHS Lothian which it appears did not happen when you attended.

It would be very helpful to know more details of your scan appointment time and place so that we can take the appropriate action and fully investigate.

Our patient feedback and experience team would be very happy to hear from you and can forward the details to our team here to take forward for you. They can be contacted by email LOTH.Feedback@nhs.scot or by telephone on 0131 536 3370 (Mon-Fri, 9am to 2pm).
