"Poor Performance from Ward"

About: Victoria Hospital / Supported Discharge Unit

(as a carer),

A number of staff neglected to adequately care for an infected leg wound despite repeated concerns raised by family members.  A course of antibiotics prescribed by the GP to treat the infection and in response to a laboratory result was stopped.  No explanation was given for this action and staff also failed to continue applying dressings and compression.  This lack of care led to increased suffering and a return to the GP within 24 hours of being discharged.  An unnecessary regression in the healing process had been caused.  The discharge letter was also inaccurate with regards to medication.  Left feeling completely let down by this ward's failures but very thankful that the general medical practice was there to pick up the pieces.
