"Poor care"

About: Pinderfields General Hospital / General surgery

(as a service user),

Attended gate 22 on the two week cancer pathway, the surgeon I was assigned was very abrupt and made me feel very uncomfortable. Because I was so uncomfortable I said I wasn't very keen on the physical examination with them but would still have the scan, biopsy etc, which they would have done regardless, but without even turning around (they still had their back to me) they just said ok, go home, that was it (had their manner been better and more understanding, I probably would have allowed them to do it).

The nurse who was in with him suggested seeing if an advanced nurse practitioner could do it, which they refused to allow, it was them or nobody.

The nurse told me to wait in reception and she would see when someone could see me. While I was waiting, the person in front of me who had checked in said to the person they were with that they should get seen quicker, as the person before them refused to be examined; so obviously this has been spoken about publicly, which seems highly inappropriate.

Dear Moonkg76

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your recent visit to the Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust.

I am so sorry to hear that you did not receive the support you needed during your appointment and that this left you feeling uncomfortable. All of our staff aim to provide a positive experience each and every time and it is disappointing that this was not your experience.

Your feedback is very important to us as it will help us to learn and improve. Learning from our patients experience is invaluable to ensure that others do not experience the same. Your feedback will be shared with the team however, if you would like us to look further into your experience, please contact our PALS team on myh-tr.palsmidyorks@nhs.net

Thank you again.

Kind regards
Clare Blackburn
