"Hit and miss treatment and lack of empathy"

About: The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King's Lynn, NHS Foundation Trust

Some of the staff and doctors were wonderful and helpful, and I really felt cared for by them. To others, I was just another patient in the way of them getting as little done as slowly as possible. One incident involved two nurses on night shift waking me up and chattering over me in their own language while they giggled and stared at me. It was quite frightening.

Another point was the lack of cleanliness, especially in helping the patients keep clean. I was quite poorly and couldn’t really clean myself, and only had 2 brief bed baths over a two week period. Nobody helped me brush my teeth, and nobody offered to help me shower. I felt rubbish as I knew I must’ve stank.

I was only offered a change of sheets once during my 2 week stay, and that was because I insisted as I had wet and soiled myself a few times.

They were very short staffed the whole time and there was a general feeling of apathy amongst the night shift staff. The day staff showed signs of great stress on the ward and appeared to lack support from their supervisors.

In conclusion, I couldn’t recommend this hospital. It feels dirty, understaffed, and poorly led, which in turn makes the nurses job impossible to really care for their patients. If you have a choice, go to a different hospital.
