Open inguinal hernia repair.
Excellent nursing from some members of staff who were kind and caring to me throughout my stay. Unfortunately the actions of one staff member were disappointing. Post recovery they never asked how I was, they just said my lift would be here at one and I needed to eat and drink, this was 12.30. I got the impression they were looking for their lunch break! I also heard two members of staff ‘chatting’ in an unprofessional way. I knew how I felt and at this stage i was in quite a lot of pain and annoyed at this lack of empathy or compassion, was it ignorance or lack of experience? Thankfully another staff member took over, they listened to me, sorted both my pain and medication for home liaising with anaesthetist to ensure everything was right, a perfect example of what a nurse in this area should be. Perhaps some mentorship from this staff member would go a long way!
