I recently accompanied my teenage daughter to an X-ray appointment at Wishaw General Hospital.
When it was her turn went into cubicle room with her where she got prepped for x-ray. The nurse that opened the door to us wasn't very welcoming. I asked if I could escort her, explaining she is Visually Impaired- told a blank no!
I then explained further that they would need to give her a very good description of where to go what to do etc. The nurse replied by pointing, saying she just needs to come in the room and lie on that bed. Did they hear anything I had just told her? My daughter can't see anything, clearly that's in that room!
The nurse asked my daughter a few questions & got her to sign a form - she had to ask a few times where to sign & she didn't know what she was signing. My daughter is under 16 with a disability, I'm sure this is not the procedure.
This nurse displayed no friendly manner and no ounce of understanding of my daughter's circumstances. On leaving we both felt very angry and that my daughter's needs were not met. This was my daughter's first experience of an x-ray and will probably be her last as this left her extremely frustrated and disheartened with the process. She couldn't get out quick enough.
Extremely poor and disappointing!
