"Follow up on POTS referral"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Cardiology & Coronary Care Unit

(as the patient),

I was referred to cardiology by my GP in 2024 for a 24 hour ECG. I had this at the end of August and was told results would be sent to GP in 2-3 weeks. The GP never got the results despite chasing it up, eventually she just had to do the sitting to standing test at the medical centre (big and consistent elevation in heart rate when standing, notable dip in blood pressure when standing) and wrote me a specific referral for POTS evaluation with all evidence suggesting I suffer from it.

It is now almost a year later and I still haven’t had my ECG results or any follow up on my POTS referral at all. These symptoms impact my daily living and I haven’t worked in almost 2 years due to a mix of chronic illnesses including endometriosis, and this undiagnosed issue which is expected to be POTS and I haven’t had any support or confirmation for this. I am scared to go anywhere alone because of these symptoms. Almost every day it feels like my body is fighting itself and that my autonomic nervous system is in total shutdown. It’s terrifying and even though I have been having to learn to deal with the anxiety of it and remind myself i’m *probably* safe, I often feel like I’m in serious danger as it’s constant heart palpitations, racing heart, blood pressure drops, severely mottled skin, limb numbness, pain, fatigue, nausea, etc. And having had a 24 hour heart monitor it’s stressful having no results almost a full year later.

Every time I call the hospital via NHS switchboard it ends up ringing for about an hour then just beeps and hangs up on me. I’ve tried calling many times at different times and days of the week and my GP has tried calling and can’t get through either. I’m not sure what to do from here. Follow up on POTS referral is needed asap but at the very least it would be good to get my ECG results back! It’s causing me a great deal of anxiety not knowing whether my results have been lost/forgotten about or simply ignored.
