"The staff went above and beyond"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Accident and emergency Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

(as a relative),

My father recently attended the Emergency Department at RD&E following a trip and fall with subsequent orbital fracture whilst on holiday.

I wanted to express how impressed we all were, not only with our experience within the emergency department and by the maxillofacial team, but also about the environment and welcoming nature of the hospital as a whole.

In particular, the speed of triage and treatment in the ED was great. I would particularly like to mention Gemma, as well as Lauren, Helen and Alex from the nursing team. Joseph, one of the dental core trainees on call for max fax, despite being faced with a very medical family, was also excellent.

The following day we needed to speak to the maxfax team on call again due to some concerns. I believe we spoke to Dr Hoshigan, one of the max fax SHOs and they arranged for us to return for review the following morning. I'd like to thank both the max fax doctor that saw my dad (I'm not sure if it was the same one we spoke to the night before) and the nurse who spoke to us in clinic.

Additionally a number of other staff require specific recognition. Whilst standing in a corridor discussing where the pharmacy was someone passing helpfully overheard and gave us directions without us needing to ask. Following this we were waiting outside the disabled toilet near the main entrance with my dad in a wheelchair and a passing cleaner cheerily offered us her radar key to open the changing places facility to use (which I was also really impressed by and is such an important provision) without us looking like we needed any assistance. Culture like this often trickles down from the leaders at the top and you should all be very proud of the service you provide.

Working in the NHS is extremely challenging and I really felt these staff went above and beyond what is necessary to make our experience as pleasant as it could be. Please pass on my thanks to them.
