"Cyclothymia Diagnosis due to Burnout"

About: Bromley Healthcare / Talk together Bromley (IAPT)

(as a service user),

I was referred to Bromley TT by my GP.  At the time, I was experiencing extreme fatigue ( I also had low cortisol levels) but on some days I had good energy; I would also be emotionally up and down.  The fatigue would sometimes last for a few weeks, and it was very challenging to do day-to-day things such as cooking, dressing, etc. Some days I would just collapse on the sofa and force myself to get up to eat something.  I had additional symptoms such as overwhelm, improper behaviour or mannerisms (that my sister would point out to me) and I could no longer drive.  When I was offered the appointments I was somewhat better with my fatigue.

Bromley TT proved to be a huge help for me because by the end of my 12 sessions, I was a different person.   I did not expect the full extent of benefits and changes in me, even though I was very much open to having any assistance with my symptoms.  My therapist, Bree, was instrumental in this.  Various tools were offered which were very useful, but it was how they were explained that made a connection with me.  It was how observant Bree was and how she would pick up on something I would say, which would be totally normal to me, but she knew to follow the trail, as it were, which brought about two unexpected healings and changes in me.  One was in identifying the 'inner bully'' that I was totally unaware of and had no clue I had one (I had never been bullied) which helped me realise why I was always overworking, didn't give myself enough rest or play which had so far led to two burnouts - I certainly could not afford to have a third one.  Another was in changing a belief system to do with my emotions (sadness, and even though I didn't know it at the time, also, anxiety) and I watched her recommended animations which made an impact on me because they were relevant, and this resulted in a change of attitude and certain perceptions in me.  These two experiences made major identifiable changes in me that I recognised the very next day - changes in behaviour and thinking that I did not have previously; and with these followed a sense of wellness, joy, freedom and much more.

Other important aspects of working with Bree, for me, were that I never felt pressurised or tense before a session, which were enormously helpful to me; I did not need any more pressure or work.  I welcomed her positive attitude, her serenity, coupled with her professional demeanour and attire.  I think in retrospect, they were all helping me unconsciously for when I start work again (!) but in a serene, relaxed and yet very effective way.

I have many gems of sentences that I jotted down when Bree was talking.  I read through these to help me solidify what I learnt from her as I don't want to regret a potential unwelcome occurrence for lack of attention and practice.

Although I am grateful for the tools shown to me I am most grateful for the healings I experienced due to Bree's knowledge and experience.  Thank you Bromley TT for such great staff who do much more than they perhaps realise.

With much gratitude and joy

Dear vegacx49,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback of your positive experience of the Talking Therapies Bromley (IAPT) service.

I am so pleased to hear that you benefitted from your sessions with Bree and she has been able to give you the 'tools' to overcome your anxieties. I have shared your lovely feedback with her (and the service lead), who I am sure will appreciate your kind words.

Best wishes, Sharon
