"Failure to uphold appointments"

About: Altnagelvin Area Hospital / Gynaecology FAU (Ward 43) General Surgery / Ward 32

(as a service user),

After 18 months of GP appointments and scans I was referred to gynaecology department of Altnagelvin Hospital however I was advised it would take two years for confirmation of an appointment.

Fast forward 3 months and I was being admitted to Altnagelvin hospital by emergency services with severe blood loss after collapsing on three occasions within a 30 minute period. During my time at the hospital I could not fault the care I received.

It had been determined that a gastric bleed developed from overuse NSAIDS whilst attempting to manage the severe pain caused by Fibroids within my womb.

Whilst being discharged from Altnagelvin Hospital I was assured they booked a gynaecology appointment for July 2025.

I was quoted by another doctor that I would no longer have to wait 2 years and assured I would be seen within 8 weeks and the appointment had been confirmed.

Over the course of the last 4 weeks it has been made clear by both that this appointment had never been arranged.

Furthermore I was advised that this was not noted anywhere despite it being physically listed on my discharge notes I was handed.

Since then I have been passed around the gynaecology and booking departments have advised the appointment is a phantom and never actually existed despite what I had been informed on by the doctors on ward 32.

Whilst the gastric bleeding is healing the original issue is now no closer to being reviewed or resolved by gynaecology.

This has been ongoing for almost 2 years now and has left me in fear of being left in a continuous cycle with the added fear of being unable to do anything about the pain in fear of causing another gastric bleed.
