"They are a credit to their profession"

About: Community Nursing / District Nursing

(as the patient),

I phoned my Monifieth Health Centre to get an appointment with a nurse as l had blisters on my right leg due to misuse of a hot water bottle. The practice put me in touch with their Angus District Nurses and l made my first appointment.

On my first appointment, not only did they attend to to ulcers, they also gave me a thorough health check on both legs by checking the blood pressure in my legs as I’m type 2 diabetic. Right from go, it was obvious l was dealing with people who were thorough, knowledgeable and took great pride in what they do and also training others during the course of my treatment. I was having my wound and dressings cleaned and changed twice a week.

This treatment went on for approx 10 weeks. Not only were my nurses clearly professional, they also had a wicked sense of humour, which made light of every visit. I can imagine how important the latter is to someone how doesn’t have family or friends in their life. I honestly can’t praise the nurses who cared for me enough, as they went way beyond care in the community and it’s comforting to know that such people still exist in a hard pressed NHS. I won’t name anyone who stood out, because everyone of the team of 5 nurses stood out.

They improved my blood circulation in both legs by getting me pressure stockings and painkillers for arthritis in a knee. All round they were incredible and l can’t thank them enough for all their help.

Their a credit to their profession.

Dear 'guy with the red trainers'.

Thank you so much for your feedback about the care and treatment you received from our District Nursing team in Monifieth. I was sorry to hear about your injury from a hot water bottle and the length of time it took to heal. District nurses are indeed expert in the treatment of leg ulcers and I understand how reassured you would have been to have received a thorough assessment of general health at your first appointment in addition to the treatment prescribed. They clearly made you feel at ease and it is pleasing to note your appreciation of their sense of humour. I am pleased that your ulcers are now healed - you might need to find an alternative to hot water bottles from here on though. Your feedback has been shared with the whole team and they will be very appreciative and grateful for you taking the time to tell us about your experience.

Thanks again
