"Extremely Frustrating "

About: The Great Western Hospital

I was referred by my GP in Oct 2024 for an on going skin condition affecting my hands. This has been an ongoing problem for over 5 years and despite treatments prescribed by my GP, there had been no real progress. I then found a cream by accident that seemed to have a positive result. With the use of gloves daily and this cream, the condition has improved. After creating a photo diary of the very worst and in chronological progression, I wanted to discuss this with the Dr in the dermatology department. Unfortunately the Dr did not want to see or discuss what I had done, only to see the last flare up.

This I felt gave her no vital background information on what was happening to my hands and how they react in day to day life. Also under environmental & emotional circumstances. She had no interest in me as an individual and I felt I was constantly being judged.

After a very frustrating and stressful consultation she suggested light therapy. When I asked her for more information, she said it was all in the leaflet. At the end of our discussion I was not convinced by her suggestion as she did not really tell me enough about the outcome or any negative implications. I left the hospital none the wiser on my condition. What I do know, is that I have helped myself responsibly with dedication to alleviate my skin issues. This was not acknowledged by the Dr and seemed to be ignored and dismissed.
