"You made my birth experience one I will cherish forever"

About: South West Acute Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I recently gave birth at the South West Acute Hospital (SWAH), and I feel compelled to share the outstanding experience I had. From the moment I arrived to be induced, I was met with warmth, professionalism, and a genuine sense of care that exceeded all expectations.

As someone who was incredibly nervous about the induction process, I cannot express how reassuring it was to be greeted by such a compassionate and supportive team. Every step of the way, the staff ensured I felt safe, informed, and cared for—transforming what began as a very anxious situation into a truly positive and empowering experience.

One individual who particularly stood out was Leanne on the maternity ward. Her kindness, attentiveness, and commitment to going above and beyond her role made a lasting impression. Whether it was offering reassurance during moments of doubt or simply taking the time to check in with a calming word or smile, Leanne made a difference that I will never forget.

I also want to express my deepest gratitude to my two midwives, Nadia and the student midwife Catriona. Their dedication, professionalism, and care were instrumental in the safe arrival of my beautiful baby boy. They worked together seamlessly, showing such empathy and calm. I felt completely safe in their hands, and their clear communication and gentle presence made the entire experience feel less daunting. Catriona, though still a student, showed remarkable skill and compassion, and I’m certain she has a bright future ahead of her in midwifery.

Mary, the sister of the ward, was another outstanding presence. She was incredibly supportive. Her leadership was evident in the calm and organised atmosphere of the ward. She had time for everyone, and her guidance and kindness made a real difference to me during those vulnerable hours throughout delivery.

I also want to mention Charlene, a student midwife who looked after me postnatally. She was so gentle, helpful, and incredibly respectful. She took time to help with anything I needed, answered all my questions patiently, and was always just a call away if I needed support. Her manner was so reassuring and warm that it made my recovery feel that much easier.

Every member of the maternity team at SWAH contributed to what I can only describe as a phenomenal experience. Their dedication and compassion turned what could have been a very stressful time into one filled with gratitude, comfort, and joy. I truly felt like I was in the best possible hands, and I’m so thankful for the way I was treated not just as a patient, but as a person.

To everyone who supported me during my time at SWAH, especially Leanne, Nadia, Catriona, Mary, and Charlene—thank you from the bottom of my heart. You made my birth experience one I will cherish forever.
