"A fantastic level of care"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / General surgery (Wards 9a, 9b, 9c & 9d)

(as the patient),

I was admitted to the surgical ward after visiting A&E convinced I was overreacting to the pain I was in. I found out that I had acute pancreatitis and would need to be admitted for a while.

This was a massive shock. Fortunately every member of staff who I came into contact with really made me feel safe despite the frightening health news.

Porters were great company and made sure to warn me of any possible bump in the journey and keep my mind off it.

Dayshift were amazing at making sure I had everything I needed and that pain was managed. They helped me to move when I couldn't and made me feel normal.

Night shift helped me to get comfortable so I could rest and were so quick to help when I needed cold packs between medications.

The student nurses were all friendly, empathetic and kind and were a credit to both the ward and GCU.

The cleaners were so kind and friendly and were happy to chat while they worked which helped me to start to feel more normal.

I met with several surgeons during my stay ad each one made sure to sit with me and answer any questions and make sure I knew what was happening and where I was in my recovery.

I really can't emphasise enough how much the fantastic level of care and patient centred approach really helped me in my recovery.

Dear Yveee,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share this really lovely feedback. I can only imagine how daunting an experience it was for you to realise you had pancreatitis.

It is wonderful to hear that you felt so well looked after by all disciplines of staff that you encountered and that this helped you feel not only physically comfortable but reassured throughout your time with us.

I sincerely hope that you are continuing to recover well.

Best wishes

Debbie Macintyre
