My young daughter was in the children's ward as an outpatient for a very straightforward procedure under general anaesthetic. The care was amazing, from start to finish. The staff were so good at what they do, from the nurses, to the consultants and especially the theatre staff, really amazing at their jobs, and they all went way beyond what you'd expect. I never felt that we were causing trouble: my daughter was quite scared of the anaesthetic process, and it was quite hard to get her to cooperate - the amazing team had lots of tricks to try and succeeded in the end. I never felt that we were less important than any of the seriously ill patients and their families. They kept us well informed and were just brilliant. Facilities were fab too.
They should all be extremely proud of themselves for creating such a wonderfully supportive environment. They even dressed up my daughter's teddy as a doctor while she was under, and she got a certificate and to choose a present from the treasure box before she left. She didn't want to go home!
We have been to the Vic children's ward several times for kids' procedures/illnesses over the years, and the recent 2 visits within this last year (she was in the kids outpatients last year for surgery) have been amazing - such positive experiences. We're very lucky to have this as our local hospital.
